Lockhart's Barbeque, Dallas

GeoTagged, [N32.74935, E96.82842]

Now this is eating. Best barbecue hands down without going to Lockhart. There is none better. Don't take your formal friends. You eat with your hands. No plates, plastic silverware. But the kitchen does specialities. The kitchen manager let us try goat. Fantastic.

Two big thumbs way up.

Joe's Pizza Italian Grill - Mesquite

GeoTagged, [N32.79893, E96.60371]

Joe's is a neighborhood family owned pizza and Italian food joint. Reasonable prices but pretty average fair (and I'm being nice). Pictured is a small pizza (half cheese/half pepperoni and Canadian bacon). We also had cheese ravioli and shrimp fettucini alfredo.

The pizza is decent with thick chewy crust and fresh plentiful toppings. The kids were pleased.

The ravioli was piping hot and also decent but it's hard to mess up cheese, sauce and pasta.

The fettucini was just bad. Milk over noodles.

If you come across Joe's, stick to the pizza and you'll do fine.

One thumb up but one big thumb down.

Black Eyed Pea

GeoTagged, [N32.81210, E96.62629]

The Pea isn't what it used to be when the genius of Gene Street created it. Pre cooked, heated in the micro food can only be so good. (Okay I don't know that they do this but it sure tastes like it). But you can get the kids veggies and easily get a family of five fed for under $50.

So one thumb up and one down for the Pea.

As you can see from the pic my 12 year old devoured the garlic shrimp pasta dish. Italians would cringe at the over dosed garlic and butter only sauce but it it fills up a 12 year old boy, I'm good.

Where are all the good places to eat in Dallas?

Dallas is supposedly renown for food, shopping, the Dallas Cowboys, South Fork and JFK. But there is a serious dearth of food critic blogs for Dallas restaurants. The only one's I have found are paid critics who go to restaurants and get free meals. No thanks. I plan to stay anonymous. Eat at everyday places as well as nice places as well as ritzy places. I have traveled quite a bit and have eaten at really spectacular places, really great dives and places that served garbage but were well thought of. In short, I know no more about food than you do. So feel free to disagree.
